Our mission is to provide educational and healthcare opportunities to children and rural villagers of Asia and Vietnam through funding, construction and staffing of kindergartens, primary schools, village markets, portable children's libraries, and cultural and vocational training centers, helping break the generational cycles of poverty and illiteracy, while still preserving the unique heritage of Asian village life.
Global Village Foundation (GVF) is a non-profit, tax-deductible 501 (c) (3) charitable organization founded in 1999 by author and humanitarian Le Ly Hayslip, focusing on humanitarian aid work in Vietnam and the promotion of nonviolence and peace.
We recently completed our first Portable Libraries Training Workshop in Danang, Vietnam, distributing over 30 portable library cases and training to over 150 teachers and administraters from over 100 schools with Vietnamese language children's books. We have also recently embarked on a far-reaching Dental Health and Education Project to bring dental hygiene education and resources to remote areas of Vietnam.
Global Village Foundation recently expanded our outreach and development areas in the U.S., upgrading the website you're looking at, and providing online donation programs in a variety of formats for large and small donors alike. Donations can now be made through PayPal's secure system using any credit card at the link provided on our How to Help page. We've also launched a sophisticated Portable Libraries Project Donation campaign that allows our donors to create donation teams with their own email lists to fundraise for Portable Libraries as a group of co-workers, friends or familly. The site also allows a donor to create their own web page and send out emails with their own messages to friends and co-workers. CLICK HERE to donate or to begin creating your own Portable Libraries Fundraising Team today. It's fast, fun, and easy.
Our recent 2006 Bridge of Peace Awards was the best ever, with Oliver Stone and Martin Sheen on hand for the festivities. You can read about it at the link in the siddebar to the left. And we've begun to look at 2007 to see who next year's nominees and honorees will be. If you wish to nominate someone, please contact us. We are looking forward to your suggestions. There are many outstanding and selfless individuals and organizations out there working day and night to transform our world into a healthier, more compassionate and loving place for children to grow and learn. Perhaps you know someone we should know about.
Global Village Foundation is working hard to put your donation dollars to work. At GVF we convert material and human resources into the reality of better lives for disadvantaged villagers, especially children, by connecting those who want to effect positive change in our world with those who are desperate for such a change.
Like a stone thrown into a small pool, GVF’s work creates ripples of hope, helping village by village. What sets GVF apart from other nonprofits is its special relationships with the communities in which it builds. We work closely with residents, business and civic leaders, and officials, and pride ourselves on the broad support we have received for every one of our development projects.
Developing countries need to grow in many ways, but without trained and educated children there can be no productive future--and without an appreciation of culture and tradition, these roots will be lost. Our work is designed to express a concern for both vocational training and academic education.
Please spend some time at our newly revised web site, or contact us directly for more information on how you can contribute materially, financially and physcially to making our world a better place for all of us to live in.
